Indira Gandhi, according to PM Modi, was fired from her position as prime minister 50 times.
According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indira Gandhi “misused” constitutional powers and 50 times removed elected state administrations. He was attempting to refute the Congress’s claims that the Modi-led federal government frequently “troubles states.”
In the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi said that Congress, when it was in power at the federal level, had violated the rights of states and regional parties and “misused” Article 356 of the Constitution 90 times to overthrow elected governments. The PM questioned, “Who are the people?,” and said that Indira Gandhi had “misused” Article 356 approximately 50 times to overthrow elected state governments.
“Although they have overthrown elected state administrations 90 times, they claim that we bother states. This nation is not anyone’s domain… I want to expose these individuals who are currently seated [with the Congress] today “PM said. He continued by describing how the Congress toppled the Left-led governments in Kerala, NT Rama Rao’s government in Andhra Pradesh, Sharad Pawar’s government in Maharashtra, and M G Ramachandran’s government in Tamil Nadu.
Ironically, he noted, those parties were now supporting the Congress.
He added that M G Ramachandran must be turning in his grave seeing his DMK ally with the Congress because “NT Rama Rao’s administration was dissolved when he was in the US for medical treatment.”
According to PM Modi, his administration frames policies with consideration for regional ambitions and places a strong emphasis on “cooperative, competitive federalism.”
