Border-Gavaskar Trophy: KS Bharat’s mother embraces him after giving him his first Test cap; image becomes viral
Team India gave middle-order ace Suryakumar Yadav and wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat their Test debuts in the first of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.
Prior to the start of the opening day of play at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, Ravi Shastri and Cheteshwar Pujara, respectively, ceremoniously awarded the pair with their first Test caps.
In the middle order, Surya has been called up to step in for the injured Shreyas Iyer, and Bharat was chosen over Ishan Kishan to take Rishabh Pant’s place.
The 29-year-old Andhra Pradesh wicketkeeper-batsman has an outstanding domestic cricket resume, having participated in 87 first-class games and scoring a total of 4707 runs. He is now the 305th Test player for India.
In the presence of his colleagues and family, Bharat received his Test debut cap. Bharat was welcomed by his mother and given a peck on the cheek after being chosen to play Test cricket for India. On social media, the picture of Bharat getting such admiration and love rapidly went viral.
Bharat finally had his moment to shine on February 9th after a protracted wait. He received his first ODI call-up for India last month against New Zealand, but he was sadly unable to participate in a match. Bharat now has a bigger job to do now that Rishabh Pant is out of the picture, both as a middle-order hitter and a wicketkeeper.
Bharat has already proven his talent in the IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore, showcasing his ability to score significant runs. The real test will be if he can repeat his performance in Test cricket, particularly against the fearsome bowling attack of the Australian team, which is led by Pat Cummins, the world’s best Test bowler.
